Junior Prep Department (Years 3 and 4)

Just a short step up from our Pre-Prep department, we welcome our pupils into our Junior Prep corridor, a vibrant stage in their educational journey where independence, curiosity, and confidence continue to flourish. Our experienced and passionate teachers nurture each child’s individuality, supporting them to grow in critical thinking and resilience. We ensure that every pupil feels confident, respected, and valued within a forward-thinking, inclusive, and supportive environment.

At this stage, pupils are encouraged to embrace new challenges, take academic risks, and develop tenacity in their learning. We passionately believe in helping each child understand their strengths, discover new passions, and overcome challenges , building valuable skills for life.

Combining the expertise of specialist subject teachers with the care and guidance of form tutors enables us to tailor learning experiences to meet individual needs. Pupils engage in creative, quality teaching, child-led investigations, and STEM-based enquiries – all contributing to a broad and balanced curriculum that enriches their learning journey.

Classes remain small, ensuring individual attention and genuine personal growth. Pupils have opportunities to take on responsibilities, join committees, and lead activities, helping them develop leadership and collaboration skills alongside rigorous academic teaching. Learning takes place both in the classroom and beyond – in our well-resourced science laboratory, vibrant arts department, and the outdoor Spinney School, where children learn to respect, care for, and protect the natural world.

Specialist teachers in PE, Music, Art, Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), Design Technology, Computer Science, and Environmental Studies deliver a rich and varied curriculum, supporting pupils in developing a deep and lasting understanding across disciplines. The Junior Prep years are full of joy, wonder, challenge, and growth, preparing pupils for the exciting step up to Senior Prep as curious, independent, well-balanced, and happy young people.

Senior Prep Department (Years 5 and 6)

As pupils enter Years 5 and 6, they approach the culmination of their Prep School journey – a time of growing independence, deeper learning, and personal discovery.

Building on the strong foundations laid in the earlier years, the Senior Prep curriculum broadens and deepens across all subjects. Pupils are encouraged to think critically, communicate confidently, and engage creatively, while still benefiting from the nurturing environment of our small school.

Our Prep Department offers a rich and balanced curriculum designed to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning. The school day prioritises the core subjects of Maths, English, and Science, complemented by Humanities, Languages, Music, PE, Art, Design Technology, Religious Education, PSHE, Exam Skills, Environmental Studies, Drama, and Games, providing a well-rounded educational experience.

Homework is a purposeful extension of classroom learning, designed to reinforce concepts and encourage independent thought. Our teachers ensure activities are matched sensitively to each pupil’s needs, creating a positive atmosphere where responsibility and independence thrive.

Praise and encouragement are central to our approach. Achievements are celebrated through house points, certificates, assemblies, and year-end celebrations – ensuring every child feels valued and inspired to do their best.
